What is the purple bar on my book cover?
We’ve added progress bars to the covers of books or audiobooks in the app, so that you can get a better idea of where you are in a book without having to open it directly!
The purple line at the bottom of each cover is the progress indicator, and it will give you a quick overview of where you last left off in a book.
As an example, if the progress bar is a ¼ of the way across the cover, you’re ¼ of the way through the book – if a book had 20 chapters, that would mean you’re on Chapter 5.
Why did my progress bar reset?
Don’t worry! The progress bar resetting doesn’t mean you’ve lost your progress.
If the book you’re reading is a series, and has multiple books listed in the chapters menu (Book 1, Book 2, etc), the progress bar should reset when you start a new book in the series. The book number that you’re on will also update on the cover once you complete a book in the series.
For example, if you finish Book 1 of The Millennium Wolves, and start reading Book 2, the progress bar on the cover of the series will reset to show that you are at the beginning of a new book, and the cover will show that you are now on Book 2.
Why is there a percentage at the bottom of my chapter?
In addition to adding a progress indicator on book covers, we’ve added one to our chapters as well!
The percentage at the bottom of the screen will show you, at any point in time, how far into a chapter you are.
What does the Galatea Age rating mean?
Galatea has introduced age ratings to help restrict more mature content from those under the age of 18. Currently, the age rating system can be broken down into two separate categories: 16+ and 18+
16+ Age Rating
Stories that fall under this age rating may be appropriate for anyone 16 years of age or older. Stories may contain non-explicit suggestive adult themes, references to some violence, or coarse language, but do not include more mature topics such as explicit sex.
If you choose "Under 18" during onboarding or in your profile settings, these are the only books that will appear in the app.
18+ Age Rating
Stories that fall under this age rating are intended for adults. These stories explore a variety of adult themes including but not limited to explicit sex and violence.
These stories will only appear in-app if your age is set to "18 or over" during onboarding, or from your profile settings.
What’s up with the Chili peppers?🌶️🌶️🌶️
The peppers next to every chapter title signify the spiciness of that episode--they tell you how sexually explicit the episode is. Maximum heat level = 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Can I read in dark mode?
We do have dark mode!
To switch this feature on and off you simply need to open the book of choice, bring up the book menu, and open the Display option.
To switch to dark mode, tap the dark option with white text. To switch back, just choose the light option!
Is it possible to read as pages instead of scrolling?
Right now, it isn't possible to read books on Galatea in a page format, but this is definitely something that we can look into in the future!
How do I re-read a chapter?
Once you’ve unlocked a chapter you can read it as many times as you’d like!
To access a previous chapter:
1. Open the Navigation menu by tapping the top of the screen if you're in an immersive story, or anywhere if you're scrolling through a book.
2. Tap "Chapters" in the Lower Left
3. Scroll to the chapter you want
4. Tap, and it will load!
Where can I discuss what I’ve read?
There are a couple of different places that you can discuss our stories!
First would be directly from the chapter you're currently reading. To access the comments section, click "Comment" in the book menu.
Additionally, you can connect with other readers in our Facebook group! Make sure you read our community guidelines before requesting to join.

Why do some books have sound and others don’t?
Stories on our "Immersive" tab are in a special format that includes sound and haptic effects to increase your enjoyment of the story. Right now, this isn't something that we're able to provide for every book, so we do have these listed in a separate section of the app.
How do I turn the sound on/off?
Books located on our Immersive Stories tab are an immersive experience, and are best enjoyed with the sound on. However, if you would rather turn that off, you can do that by tapping on the speaker icon in the book menu.
